What's going on during the Brixham Heritage Festival!

Saturday, May 24th
11.15am

Tony Beard (The Widdecombe Wag) will open the Parade led round the Town by Gunner Edgar Lawrance ,marshalled by courtesy of Brixham Rotary. Everyone welcome to join in. We gather on the Old Fish Market.

11.30am

The Parade with the Torbay Sea Cadets Marching Band, Clowns, Juggling Unicyclist, morris dancers, the Devon Dawdlers, A.T.C. cadets from A876 (Brixham) Squadron, Devil’s Elbow, Sue Cottrill with the Brixham Sea Rangers, Totnes Town Band, Brixham Girl Guides, music and much more.

12.00pm

The Amazing Wayne, yes, will amaze you with his unicycle tricks in Fore Street.

12.00pm-12.30pm

The Fantasy Theatre Group “The Realm of Heros” present a spontaneous, unscripted production of ……we’ll have to wait and see!!

Devil’s Elbow - Banjo fun on Kings Quay by Micks Captains Cabin.

Our very own clowns Cosmo and Lez the Fez with magic and balloon sculpture through the Town.

The Brixham Heritage Sailing Trawler Race and Rally in the Bay. Five classes entered and best view from the Breakwater.

Charlbury Morris dance again this time in Fore Street giving everyone a chance to see them.

Please welcome The South London Concert Band playing show tunes and marches.They were here two years ago. Don’t miss them.

Popular local group Swashbuckle, a four piece folk band playing good time folk, sea shanties, Irish and American songs. Come and join the fun.

No break in the entertainment tonight as we present the Teign Valley Stompers music to get you fired up for the first Firework Spectacular of the week set to Bond Themes. Sponsored by Shipmates and Brixham Trawler Agents.

Grand Firework Display by Skyburst Illuminations over the Harbour set to James Bond Themes. The countdown will be led by Cllr Vic Ellery, Chairman of Brixham Town Council and Mrs Val Ellery.
Fireworks sponsored by Brixham Marina, Quayside Hotel, The Berry Head Hotel, Brixham Yacht Club and the Heritage Festival.

 
Sunday, May 25th
10.00am - 5.00pm

The BRIXHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will be open all day with entry and light refreshments at prices of 50 years ago - yes that’s 1958! The Museum will be open for exhibitions all week but look later in the programme for other events. Contact (01803) 856267.

12.00pm - 2.30pm

The Berry Head Hotel. Lunch from the Carvery and listen to some Jazz. (01803) 853225.

1.45pm - 2.15pm The afternoon starts with the multi talented Torquay Stagecoach Theatre and Arts Group with singing and dancing.
2.30pm - 4pm

Our Festival regulars Mr P. Body’s Rock and Roll Train with music you remember. Sponsored by Plymouth and South West Co-Operative Society.

5pm - 7pm The 16 piece High Tide Big Band with a new sound for the Festival.
7.30pm Brixham Theatre hosts solo musicians Alan Barnes and Nathan Bray with the Henley Farrell Big Band. A first time visit to Brixham. Listen to the music of Sinatra, Goodwin, Basie, Darin, Ellington etc; Tickets will be £10 and are available from the Brixham Tourist Information Centre on (01803) 852861.
8.00pm Brixham’s Festival of the Sea for the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen with Len Scott. A Blessing and celebration of the Brixham Fleet with the Town Band, the Riviera Singers and the Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir.
8.45pm Charity Quiz in the bar at the Berry Head Hotel in aid of Heritage Funds will include a Heritage Round and a Food and Drink Round. Before your Quiz enjoy paella, sangria, Moules, frits and local cider.
9.00pm The Quayside Hotel. Live Music in the Ernie Lister Bar with Southern Comfort.
 
Monday, May 26th

The Great Glosjazz Big Band - the growing up Gloucester Youth Jazz Orchestra. We welcome them every year so come down and support them as usual.

Tuesday, May 27th
10.00am-12.00pm

Brixham Heritage Museum present Mr John Friend demonstrating net and rope making.

2.30pm - 3.30pm

The Strand Art Gallery present Mr Bill Stockman, the long standing Brixham Artist demonstrating his painting of the Harbour and the Golden Hind. Children can then draw their own pictures of the Harbour and win prizes - future artists may be discovered! Paper and crayons supplied.

4.00pm - 6.00pm

Route 66 - two guys , two guitars. A local due playing songs from the 60’s and 70’s to the present day.

7.30pm The Original Ghost Walk starts from the William of Orange Statue. Allow 2 hours of your life. Adults £5, OAPs £3, Children £2. Babies and dogs go free.
7.30pm

Spend an evening with High Society a sophisticated six piece band re-creating the elegant syncopated and latin sounds of the 20s, 30s, 40s, and much more.

Brixham Heritage Museum invite you to an “Indoor Mini Archaeological Dig” for children with the Archaeological team. Mrs Scarlett will demonstrate the art of Lace Making from 10a.m. - 5p.m.

MIU,a six piece band from Brixham Community College, WINNERS of the Battle of Bands Competition playing 60s-70s covers with a modern twist. We are proud to welcome them to the Festival.

The Sea Anglers Club Fishing Competition on the Breakwater Hard. Prizes to be won.

8.00pm Our Favourites Heather and Gorse and the Grimspound Border Morris are here again with their fun and raunchy dancing. Don’t miss this.

Mr Stan Cox at the Brixham Heritage Museum demonstrating rope and net making.

Pirates Day! 10.00am - 4.00p.m. on the Old Fish Market and 2.00pm - 4.00pm in the Community Centre Fore Street. Family Fun including games, competitions, workshops and much more. Notice Board on the Quay for times.

Classic Vehicle Rally by the Breakwater. Sponsored by Eric Lloyd & Co Churston.

Our very own BRIXHAM TOWN BAND continue with their regular Thursday evening concerts. This year it will be dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the Brixham Heritage Museum. Please support this event.

Friday, May 30th

Throughout the day the Royal National Lifeboat Charity invite you to check out the goods on their stalls and our Clown Lez the Fez will be around to keep the children (and grown-ups) amused.

Brixham Yacht Club presents, on behalf of the Tall Ships Youth Trust, “Challenger Match Racing” around Torbay. View from the Breakwater and Battery Gardens.

Our Crab Catching competition gets more popular every year. It is for 6-12 year olds and is FREE to enter - just bring a line, bucket and bait and win some prizes. Meet between Kings Quay and the events pontoon. Sponsored by Eric Lloyd & Co Churston.
